Who we Are
Founded in 2012, Tent Cinema is one of the best acting schools in Bangalore.
It is another successful initiative from writer and filmmaker Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar’s continued efforts to introduce fresh artists and technicians into the industry.
The school offers acting courses for adults and children, courses on film making to adults and workshops on Scriptwriting, Cinematography, Editing and Film Marketing and Distribution.
Our Approach
Our approach at Tent Cinema is to start with the premise: there is an actor built-in to everyone; we are simply helping them (re)discover their true artistic selves. Students are introduced to the theater in simple but refreshing ways.
Nothing emerges from a textbook or a specific school of acting. Ideas from everyday life are thrown around in class: a cup of coffee, a rock, a well; and students are asked to mime it.
Each student in the class becomes a character and a member of the audience, simultaneously. They are observing, as well as internalizing the world of characters around them. Because our students come from such varied backgrounds, we have an interesting give-and-take learning process in class.
A student with good presentation skills and no imagination, for example, borrows from another student with great imagination but no presentation skills.
A duck glides on water. Its webbed feet, wading, working, are invisible underwater. So also, great acting, to the audience, is an effortless, natural state of being.
Only the actor is aware of the struggle and work that goes into making a character believable. Tent Cinema makes this learning experience fun and fulfilling.
Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar
Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is a well-known name in the cultural sphere of Karnataka.
His creativity is multi-dimensional — he is a scriptwriter, producer, film-maker (feature and documentary), lyricist, writer (fiction, non-fiction) and travelogue writer, and columnist, all rolled into one.
From winning a National Award for his debut film (Kadina Benki) and going on to win 3 more in his industrious career for the films – “America! America!!”, “Kotreshi Kanasu” and “Hoomale”, he is also a recipient of 13 Karnataka State Awards and 2 Filmfare awards.
He is known for having brought multiple artists and technicians into the industry such as Mano Murthy and Dhyan (Sameer Dattani). Also, Amitabh Bachchan did a guest appearance in his film “Amruthadhare” for the first time in a Kannada film.
But that isn’t at the end of it. He has directed 9 mega serials and 2 show series alongside directing 15 feature films. This teamed with his socially conscientious personality makes him a force to be reckoned with.
Ms Shobha CS
Shobha CS has more than two decades of experience working in the IT industry handling Project Management, Quality, Training and Knowledge Management.
After a long and successful career in the corporate world, she started Tent Cinema, an acting school that trains young actors who aspire to join the entertainment industry.
She has managed the production of many films like America! America!!, Paris Pranaya, and Nanna Preethiya Hudugi. At Tent Cinema, she plans the course curriculum, organizes film-making workshops, and produces short films.
She is actively involved in script discussion and production design of many film projects produced through Nagathihalli Cine Creations.
